Getting to know you.

When I first started one of my jobs (the full-time one, for those of you keeping track) there was one person who pretty much instantly became my friend, and who I gained an instant respect for. He and I have always had a good brief repartee, but have never really talked in depth about anything in our personal lives. This evening as I was doing my usual sprint from work to the train, I ran into him leaving as well. We started talking about how our days went, and next thing I knew, we were walking around (in 65 degree weather, I might add...) talking about everything in our lives; current and otherwise. I can't say I've had a more enjoyable evening since I've started working as much as I have. We walked around for the better part of an hour before he walked me home; and I learned some incredible things about him, and told some stories of my own.
Since I've had pretty much no life since I started working this much, I haven't hung out with someone like that in months, and it was such a relaxing walk around town with someone who I now consider to be a really great friend. Granted, I always considered him a friend whose advice was always looking out for my best interests, but now that I've shared this evening with him, I will jump at any occasion to spend more time and share more conversations with him.
This guy was my first friend when I started working there, and after tonight, I might say one of my best friends there. Moral of my story: take the time to really get to know someone outside of work. You may have the best night of your life.
